Obituary

Wrentham—Mildred C. (Lapento) Bredice 100, of Wrentham, and Franklin, and former longtime resident of Torrington, Connecticut, died Thursday September 2, 2010 at the Maples Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Wrentham, following a illness. She was the wife of the late Alfred L. Bredice who died in 1996.
Born November 24, 1909 in Winsted, Connecticut, a daughter of the late Antonio & Maria (Lagiodice) Lapento, she was raised and educated in Torrington, CT, and was a graduate of the Perry Secretarial School. She was a resident of Torrington for over 90 years before moving to Franklin in 1999, and settling at the Forge Hill Independent Living Facility to be near her daughter.
On October 18, 1933, she married Alfred L. Bredice at Center Congregational Church; and with her husband they operated an insurance and real estate business in Torrington.
Mildred will be remembered for her faith in God, her love for her family, and her loyalty to her friends. She enjoyed organizing holiday gatherings and family picnics for her extended family and enjoyed other social events as well. She was fun to be with. Mildred’s 100th Birthday was celebrated last November at the Maples Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Wrentham, with her close family and friends.
Mildred was very active in her Torrington, CT, community as a member of Center Congregational Church; a life member and Past Worthy Matron of Pierpont Chapter #49 Order of Eastern Star; past Mother Advisor of the Torrington Assembly #16 Order of Rainbow for Girls; Past President of the Insurance Women of Litchfield County; a member of the Quota Club; and the Sullivan Senior Center.
She is survived by a daughter Marlene Fregeau of Franklin, a son Frank Bredice and his wife Nancy of South Burlington, Vermont and her four grandchildren; Susan Daddario and her husband James, Linda Lucier and her husband Steven all of Franklin, Steven Bredice and his wife Tara of Jeffersonville, Vermont, and Alfred Bredice of Portland, Maine; also surviving are her 7 great grandchildren Jimmy, Jeffrey and Julia Daddario, Ryan & Emily Lucier, and Gianna & Alexandra Bredice.
She is also survived by two sister-in-laws; Albina (Bredice) Muschell & Dora Bredice of Torrington, CT.
She was the mother of the late Ernestine Bredice, and the sister of the late Rochina DeCroce, Rose Cilfone, Mary LaStoria, Antoinette DalPozzol, and Ann Nolan. She was the mother-in-law of the late Normand Fregeau.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday September 9th, at 10:30AM from the Phelan Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave. Torrington, CT www.phelanfuneral.com, with a funeral service in the Center Congregational Church, Main Street, Torrington, at 11AM.
Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 9:00-10:30 at the funeral home prior to the service.
