Rev. Melford A. Mesquitta, 98, of Middleboro died peacefully at his home on September 4, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Monica (Coburn) Mesquitta.
Born in St. Andrew, Jamaica, on December 10, 1911, he was the son of the late Septimus and Martha (Douglas) Mesquitta.
Rev. Mesquitta served as pastor of the Bethel A.M.E Church in Plymouth on three occasions spanning over 22 years and at the Bethel A.M.E. Church in New Bedford for 18 years.
He is survived by his nephews, Winston Mesquitta and his wife Rose of New Bedford, and Joseph Mesquitta of Jamaica and Ft. Lauderdale, FL; his nieces, Mary "June" McPherson and her husband Oswald of Fort Lauderdale and Doris Johnson and her husband Eric of North Carolina; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins.
His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 11:30 AM at the Bethel A.M.E Church, 532 County Street, New Bedford. Viewing will be at the Church on Wednesday morning from 10-11:30 AM prior to the service. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
