Catherine A. "Cay" Doran, of 300 W. Shore Ave., Groton Long Point, died Wednesday morning at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient for the past month. She was 86.
Cay was born in New York City on June 30, 1917 the only child to Albert and Alice (Barnwell) Gouldsbury. She was married to Richard S. Doran Sr. on April 14, 1940. He died in May, 1989.
A former resident of Brooklyn, CT, she was a longtime summer resident of Groton Long Point before moving there permanently twelve years ago. In earlier years while raising her family, Cay was active with The Scouts, the 4-H Club, P.T.A., Little League and was a longtime volunteer at Day Kimball Hospital. She was a longtime former member of the Federated Church of Christ in Brooklyn where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Noank Baptist Church She was also active with the Groton Long Point Women's Association.
Known as a loving mother and grandmother, Cay leaves her 3 children, Richard S. Doran Jr. of Brownsville, VT, Thomas B. Doran of Canton, MA, and Deborah Lea Doran of Groton Long Point; 3 grandchildren, Traci of Brownsville, Kelly of Rehoboth, MA, and Jonathan of Canton.
A memorial Service will be conducted at the Noank Baptist Church on Friday, December 5th, at 7:30pm. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Private burial will be in Westfield Cemetery, Danielson. There are no visiting hours.
Donations in Cay's memory may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
