
TEWKSBURY: Dorothy M. (Spracklin) Powers, age 96, a resident of Tewksbury for over 60 years, passed away Tuesday evening, August 31, 2010 at home, with her family by her side.
She was the beloved wife of Earl R. Powers, who passed away on December 19, 1957.
Born in Chelsea on August 17, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin N. Spracklin and the late Annie (Griffin) Spracklin.
Dorothy was raised in Chelsea and attended Chelsea Schools.
In 1948, she moved to Tewksbury where she has resided for the past 62 years.
Mrs. Powers was a member of St. Anne's Episcopal Church of Billerica.
Prior to her retirement in 1977, she was employed as a seamstress by the Comfort Bedding Company of Lowell and the former Helena Dress Shop of Lowell.
Dorothy enjoyed sewing and her numerous craft projects .
She is survived by one son, Robert E. Powers and his wife Anne Girouard of Nashua, NH; five grandchildren, Earl , Joseph, Erik, and Jessica Powers, and Heather Hallford; four great grandchildren, P.J., Richard and Dakota Powers, and Amanda Isaac; one brother, Roger P. Spracklin of Revere; two sisters, Marion J. White of Saugus and Mildred E. Downey of Weymouth; also many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Powers was the mother of the late Earl R. "Buddy" Powers, Jr. and sister of the late Richard, John, Raymond and Benjamin "Norman" Spracklin.
Calling hours Thursday, Sept. 2nd, from 5-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 3rd, at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
