Gertrude G. (Hoehn) Lassila

Gertrude G. (Hoehn) Lassila, age 94, died Monday August 30 in Fitchburg.
She was born in Fitchburg on February 3, 1916, and lived in the Fitchburg
home on Milk St. for over 90 years. She was the daughter of Paul and
Margaretha (Friedrich) Hoehn. She graduated from Fitchburg High School
with the class of 1933.
She was the widow of Voitto M. Lassila who died March 31, 1970. He was a
devoted physical education teacher at the former B.F. Brown Junior High
School. Gertrude was a secretary at the former Crocker Burbank Paper Co.
and its successors for over 30 years.
Gertrude was predeceased by a sister Anna (Hoehn) Ledger, a nephew
Richard Ledger and a brother Walter.
Gertrude was a member of the Leominster Art Association and was a
highly respected watercolor artist. She loved crafts of all kinds especially
card making. She spent many Thursdays watercolor painting with her artist
friends.
Gertrude is survived by her nephews, Alan Lassila of Riverside, Ca.
Stephen Lassila and wife Kathy of South Dennis, Ma. Donald Lassila and
wife Gail and Richard Lassila of Fitchburg and three grand- nephews and
her sister-in-law, Lisa Lassila of Fitchburg.
According to Gert's wishes, there will be no calling hours and burial will be
private at Fitchburg's Forest Hill Cemetery. Memorial donations may be
made to the Voit. M. Lassila Award c/o Alumni Association Fitchburg High
