Agnes J. McCloskey, 98, of Westport died Friday, August 27, 2010 at the Fall River Jewish Home. Born in Fall River, daughter of the late John J. and Gertrude M. (Crosson) McCloskey, she summered on East Beach in Westport from 1940 until 1973 when she moved to Westport year round.
A graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, Class of 1930, she graduated from St. Josephs Hospital School of Nursing in Providence in 1934 and the University of Pittsburgh in 1950 specializing in Neuropsychiatry. A veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict, she served her country in the Army Nurse Corps, working in the Department of Medicine and Surgery, as a Nurse Supervisor, Instructor and Assistant Chief Nursing Service Administrator for 7 hospitals in 5 states. Prior to retirement in 1973, she worked for the VA Hospital in Denver for several years. Ms. McCloskey was a Communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, Westport.
She was the sister of the late Margaret E. McCloskey, former Principal of the Belisle School in Fall River.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, September 4, 2010 at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 9:30 A.M.
Visitation will be from 8 – 9 A.M. prior to the funeral at the Potter Funeral Home.
Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
