Obituary

Henry J. Dumas, Jr., 76, of Derry, NH, died Sunday, August 29, 2010 at his home. He was born in Worcester, MA on May 26, 1934, son of the late Dr. Henry and Anita (Beauschesne) Dumas. Mr. Dumas had been a resident of Derry for the past 39 years, formerly living in Worcester and Framingham, MA. He grew up in Worcester, attended Worcester Academy, Worcester Polytechnic Institute and earned his Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering from M.I.T. Mr. Dumas was a member of the Gamma Sigma Chapter of the National Fraternity Alpha Tau Omega while at W.P.I. and was active with them throughout his life. He was also honored with membership in Sigma XI, a Scientific Research Society, for his life's work. Mr. Dumas was involved with R.O.T.C. while at W.P.I. and then served with the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Huachuca, AZ. Following his retirement, he enjoyed the seven years he spent teaching at the NH Technical Institute in Manchester, NH. He was a member of First Parish Congregational Church in Derry and had served on its Board of Trustees. Mr. Dumas enjoyed working on his cars, watching the Red Sox and the Patriots, following the Stock Market, photography and traveling the world during his working days. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their different events.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Harriet (Briggs) Dumas of Derry, three sons; James Henry Dumas of Milford, MA, Robert Charles Dumas of Brookline, MA and Andrew Joseph Dumas of Cranston, RI, seven grandchildren; Jeremy Currier, Eric, Elizabeth, Katherine, Andrew, Tierney and Adam Dumas, a brother; Richard Paul Dumas of Auburn, MA and also by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Joan Elizabeth Currier in 1982.

Calling hours were held on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry, NH. Funeral services were held on Thursday at 10:00 AM in the funeral home. The burial followed in the Forest Hill Cemetery, E. Derry.
