Obituary

Alfred L. Farland, 90, of New Bedford died Sunday January 27, 2002 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Rita (Guilbeault) Farland,and son of the late Adelard and Mary Louise (St. Denis) Farland.

A lifelong resident of New Bedford, he was a communicant of St. Anne's Church.

Mr. Farland was formerly employed as a mover for Larry's Movers, and later worked at Brittany Dye Company until his retirement.

During World War II, he served in the U. S. Army and participated in the Battles of Tunisia, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, Southern France, the Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal and the European African Middle Eastern TheaterCampaign Ribbon.

Survivors include his wife, a sister Marie Cayer of New Bedford, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.He was the brother of the late Adelard Farland and Albert Farland.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New BedfordWednesday January 30, 2002 at 8:45 AM.Funeral Mass at St. Anne's Church at 9:45 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Entombment will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum in Fall River. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday January 29, 2002 from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101.
