Cecile M. McCarthy (Labbee), 83, died surrounded by her family on Friday, August 27th in North Shore Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born in Salem on March 29, 1927 the daughter of Albert and Eva (Arpin) Labbee. She was a graduate of Salem High School and actively participated in class reunions throughout her life.
Ceil lived and raised her family in Marblehead and was a retiree of the Marblehead Municipal Light Department where she worked for over thirty years. Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish was important to her. She attended Mass daily and she participated in Parish activities her entire adult life. When her children attended Our Lady Star of the Sea School she was in the Mothers’ Club and helped with the Bazaar. Later in life she was a Communion Minister, a volunteer at the Christmas Fair and helped to maintain the Altar. After retirement Ceil enjoyed her garden, the exercise classes at the Center, the pool at the Salem YMCA , traveling with her family and socializing with her many friends. She loved to be busy and on the go.
She is survived by her daughters and their husbands: Ann M. and Bill Leaver of Salem, Sue M. and D. Scott Adams of Columbia, MO and Nancy F. McCarthy and Paul M. Creamer of North Andover; her grandchildren, William J. Leaver IV of Henderson, NV, Meghan M. Leaver of Marblehead and Park City, UT, Haley M. Adams and Tyler S. Adams of Columbia, MO; fiancees of her grandchildren, Courtney J. Scherer and Jeremy C. Greenberger; a sister, Charlotte Hooper of Danvers, many beloved nieces and nephews and all of her cherished friends.
Ceil was predeceased by her sister, Jeannette (Labbee) Newman, her brother, Richard Labbee and her husband, John A. McCarthy.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral mass on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 85 Atlantic Ave., Marblehead at 9 a.m. Visiting hours: Monday 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be private.
