Obituary

Joseph W. Powers Sr. , of Stoughton, passed away on Monday November 24,2003, in the Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton,MA after a lengthy illness. He was 75 years old. He was the beloved husband of Camilla A. “Millie” (Gaultier).

Born May 16,1928, in Canton,MA, he was the son of the late Mr. Joseph and Mrs. Elizabeth (Colbert) Powers.

He attended St. Mary’s School in Canton and was a graduate of Canton High School.

After graduating from High School he enlisted in the Massachusetts National Guard and was subsequently drafted into the U.S. Army.

While in the service, he had the occupation of a Sharpshooter and Heavy Machine –Gunner.

He was dedicated to his country and was a Veteran of the Korean War.

He was a member and past Commander of the Michael Romanuk VFW Post 1645, in Stoughton,MA from 1996-1997.

After serving his country, Mr. Powers was employed as a Shipper-Receiver with the former Raymonds, Mammoth Mart and Zayre Department Stores, for many years.

After Mr. Powers retirement, he held part-time jobs for Tamfelt Inc. in Canton,MA and the Stoughton Public Works Department.

He was a Communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton.

He was a “Family Man” and loved his grandchildren dearly.

His interests included: Bowling,Golf and going to the Racetrack.

He was also a coach and an umpire in the Stoughton Men’s Slow Pitch Softball League.

Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his children : Joseph W. Powers Jr. and his wife Tracy of Bridgewater,MA, Kenneth F. Powers and his wife Susan of Middleboro,MA, David S. Powers and his wife Jeanne, of Stoughton,MA , Mark M. Powers and his wife Tracy of Berkley,MA and Scott J. Powers and his wife Katie, of Douglasville,GA. He was also father of the late Robert J. Powers. He was pre-deceased by brothers: John, William, Leo, James, Edward, Albert and a sister Rita. Also survived by 15 grand-children and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the Sheehan Funeral Home, 115 Monk Street, Stoughton on Saturday November 29,2003 at 8:30 A.M. , followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in the Immaculate Conception Church, 122 Canton Street, Stoughton, at 9:45 A.M. Burial will follow in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton,MA. Visiting hours are on Friday November 28,2003 from 4-8 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Dana-Farber’s Jimmy Fund Tribute Program, 1 Harvard Street, Brookline,MA 02146-9795 or the Immaculate Conception Church, 122 Canton Street, Stoughton,MA 02072 in Joe’s memory, would be appreciated.
