Obituary

Dr. Richard A. Moody, 86, of Jesup, GA, died Saturday, August 28, 2010. The Bibb Co., GA, native was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Jesup, GA, for 48 years, where he was an active Deacon, served as chairman, and was recently appointed Deacon Emeritus. He graduated from Lanier High School in Macon, GA. After high school, during World War II, he enlisted in the U. S. Navy, Air Division, attaining the rank of Aviation Machinist mate, First Class (AMM1/C). He attended Mercer University in Macon for several years. At Mercer he lettered in varsity tennis and was a member of the M Club. While at Mercer, he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order Fraternity. He transferred to Florida State University to continue his studies and received his B. S. Degree. He attended the Medical College of Georgia and graduated with a M. D. Degree, after graduation he joined the house staff for further training at Macon Hospital in Macon, GA. At this time, he and Daisy Dix were married. After training in Macon, he and Daisy decided on Jesup, GA, for establishing a home and practice. In Jesup, he was on the medical staff at Wayne Memorial Hospital and served as Chief of Staff for one year, was a member of the Wayne County Medical Society, Southern Medical Association and the American Medical Association. The latter part of his career, he served as emergency medicine physician in Vidalia, GA. During his entire medical career, he served as physician for 41 years. During his life in Jesup, he was a Rotarian, member of the Pine Forest Country Club, Gideon International, and the Flat Woods hunting club. He was elected for two terms on the Wayne County School Board and for several years he served as team physician for the Wayne County football team.

Survivors are his wife of 49 years: Daisy Dix Moody of Jesup, GA, 3 sons: Dr. Rodney & Dr. Dana Moody of Savannah, GA, Randall & Sheila Moody of St. Simons Island, GA, Ronald & Terri Moody of Griffin, GA, a sister: Jacquelyn M. Lindburg of Minneapolis, MN, a brother: Harry & Patsy Moody of Macon, GA, a brother-in-law: Marvin Dix of Abbeville; 7 grandchildren: Mary Elizabeth Moody, Emily Moody, Taylor Moody, Ansley Moody, Meritt Moody, Katherine Moody, & Lilly Moody, several nieces & nephews. Dr. Moody was preceded in death by his parents Walter Thomas and Rosa Tharpe Moody and 6 brothers.

Funeral services will be 4 P. M. Monday, August 30, 2010, from the Jesup First Baptist Church with Dr. Mike VonMoss officiating. Graveside funeral services will be 11 A. M. Tuesday, August 31, 2010, from the Mt. Zion Church Cemetery in Wilcox County, GA, with Dr. Mike VonMoss officiating. Active pallbearers will be: Ed Madray, Carroll Brewton, Roy Pattie, Larry Cooper, Don Westberry, Eddie Thomas, Jim Fountain, Harley Grove, Fred Bishop, & Fred Fender. Honorary pallbearers will be: Fellowship Sunday Class of First Baptist Church, Ginger Johns, Evelyn Green, Marjorie NeSmith, Mary Frances Duren, Bob Robinson, & Carey E. Jones, Sr.

Visitation will be 2 to 4 P.M. Sunday, August 29, 2010 from the Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home.
