Lloyd E. Sullivan, a lifelong resident of Melrose, died on Saturday, August 28, 2010, at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose following an extended illness. He was 87 years old.
Lloyd was born in Melrose on July 20, 1923 to the late Lloyd D. and Edith M. (Whalen) Sullivan. He grew up in Melrose where he attended Melrose Public Schools and graduated from Melrose High School in 1941. He enlisted into the United States Army and served his country during World War II. Lloyd worked as a line-o-type operator for the Melrose Free Press Newspaper from 1941 until 1982. In 1982 he began working for Merrill Lynch Brokerage Company and and worked there until his retirement in 2003. Lloyd enjoyed all sports especially baseball and coached for many years at the Melrose Little League level.
Lloyd is the beloved husband of the late Helen C. (Crosby) Lloyd. He is the devoted father of Edward L. Sullivan of Melrose and James R. Sullivan and his wife Robin E. Shor of Jamaica Plain. He is the beloved brother of the late Alma M. Chamberlain. He is the loving uncle of Susan Galante of New York, Pamela Moscufo of Wilmington and Kathleen Tafel of Westford.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Lloyd's Funeral on Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main Street, Melrose, followed by his Funeral Mass in The Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main Street, Wakefield, at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2010, from 4 to 8 p.m.
