Sylvester C. “Charlie” Sviokla, 87, of Marshfield, formerly of Brockton, died Wednesday morning at LifeCare of Plymouth. He was the husband of the late Katherine B. (McCaig) Sviokla who died in 1976.
Born in Brockton, he was a son of the late Sylvester C. and Constance (Urbonavicz) Sviokla. He was raised in Brockton’s Lithuanian Village and resided in the Ocean Bluff section of Marshfield for over 30 years.
He was a graduate of Brockton High School and later earned a degree in chemical engineering form Northeastern University in 1947.
Mr. Sviokla served in the Navy during WWII and was awarded the American Theater Medal, Victory Medal, and Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal.
He was the President and CEO of Alfax Paper Inc. and also the former Vice President of Alden Products in Brockton.
Mr. Sviokla was a communicant of St. Casmir in Brockton and St. Ann by-the-Sea in Marshfield.
He is survived by three sons, Sylvester C. “Skip” Sviokla III, and his wife Maurine, of Pawtucket, RI., Francis E. “Frank” Sviokla, and his wife Patricia, of East Bridgewater, and John J. “JJ” Sviokla, and his wife Eileen, of Newton. He was the brother of Julia Guymont of Stoughton, and the late Rev. Msgr. Edmund Sviokla. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and two nephews and their families.
His funeral will be Tuesday at 9:00 am from his late residence, 560 Ocean St., (Ocean Bluff) Marshfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Ann by-the-Sea, Ocean St. (Ocean Bluff) Marshfield. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery, North Cary St, Brockton. Visiting hours at his late residence on Monday from 4:00-8:00 pm.
