BEVERLY - Willis S. MacKay, 77, of Beverly, formerly of Salem, died Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at the Beverly Hospital following a long illness.
Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Wilfred and Elizabeth (Willis) MacKay and was a graduate of Salem High School in the class of 1950..
An Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served with the 82nd Airborne Division and attained the rank of Corporal.
Following his military service, Mr. MacKay attended and graduated from Northeastern University in Boston.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed in the offices of the Greyhound Bus Lines in Boston for over 30 years until his retirement in the late 1980's. In his retirement years he worked at the Sunrise Assisted Living facility in Peabody.
Since 1965, Mr. MacKay has been a member of the St. Paul’s Chapter in Boston, of The Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Massachusetts, York Rite of Freemasonry. He was also a member of the Aleppo Temple Shrine since 1968. He was a member of the St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Salem.
Willis is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Kenneth Hastings of Nashua, New Hampshire, one granddaughter, Isabella Hastings of Nashua, his former wife, Anne (Galeota) MacKay of Lowell, one sister and brother-in-law, Marion C. and Richard Mooney of Beverly, two nieces and their spouses, Elizabeth and Edward Cahill and Christine and Steve DeGrappo, all of Beverly, one nephew and his spouse, Richard and JoAnna Mooney Jr. of Beverly.
