TEWKSBURY: Rolland Joseph Roy, age 76, a longtime resident of Tewksbury and 30 year member of the Tewksbury Housing Authority died Sunday, November 23, 2003.
He was the husband of Mary (Brannon) (Driscoll) Roy to whom he was married for 15 years.
He was born in Barre City, Vermont on March 2, 1927, the son of the late Oram and Lydia (Roy) Roy. Mr. Roy was raised and educated in Washington, VT.
He served during World War II in the U.S. Navy and was stationed aboard the U.S.S. Waldron in the Pacific.
In 1951, following his honorable discharge, he moved to Tewksbury. He attended St. William’s Church.
Mr. Roy founded, owned and operated Roy’s Barber Shop of Tewksbury where he worked for more than 40 years until retiring in 1989.
Mr. Roy was a member of the Tewksbury V.F.W. Post # 8164 and a charter member of the Tewksbury Rod & Gun Club.
During his retirement, he moved to Port Richey, Florida, where he held membership in many clubs and organizations including the Aripeka Lodge of Elks, the Port Richey Eagles Club, the American Legion and the Timber Oaks Golf Club.
He enjoyed many activities especially fresh water fishing and playing golf.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter; Linda S. Chiozzi and her husband Vincent of Andover; his son; Paul J. Roy and his wife Donna (Camelio) of Tewksbury; his former wife; Rita J. (Feran) Roy of Tewksbury; 8 brothers; Delore Roy and his wife Josie of Barre, VT, Raymond Roy and his wife Hilda of Sudbury, MA, Edward Roy and his wife Rose of Westfield, MA, Bernard Roy and his dear friend Joan Hughes of Graniteville, VT, Armand Roy and his wife Jeanette of Enfield, CT, Robert Roy and his wife Maryjane of Burlington, VT, Donald Roy and his wife Nancy of Lakeland, FL and Normand Roy and his wife Maureen of Burlington, VT; 4 sisters; Mary Foreman of Quincy, MA Anita Sequin and her husband Charles of Burlington, VT, Margaret Carney and her husband Edward of Tewksbury, MA and Diane Stevens and her husband Richard of Barre, VT; 3 grandchildren; Jennifer M. Roy Bairstow and her husband Scott, Paul Vincent Chiozzi and Melissa K. Chiozzi; also many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Roy was the brother of the late Victor Roy and brother-in-law of the late Lucille Roy, Nettie Roy and Joseph Foreman.
Calling hours Friday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the FARMER & DEE FUNERAL HOME, 16 LEE ST., TEWKSBURY. Funeral Saturday at 9 a.m.from the funeral home. Funeral Mass Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Tewksbury. In lieu flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
