Meredith---The Rev. Richard I. Learned, 84, of 3 Westview Drive, died at the Concord Hospital on Wednesday, August 25, 2010. He was Pastor Emeritus of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Laconia. Rev. Learned was born March 20, 1926 in Port Chester, New York, the son of Addison and Kathryn (Tetley) Learned. Rev. Learned served in the U. S. Navy Medical Corps during WWII.
He was a graduate of Abington, MA, High School, the University of Connecticut, and received an MDiv degree from Wittenberg University’s Hamma School of Theology.
Rev. Learned served parishes in Elmont, NH and Woonsocket, RI before moving to NH in 1981 to develop the congregation of Good Shepherd.
After his retirement, Rev. Learned was active in many areas of elder services, including the Belknap County Area Committee on Aging. He also served on the Advisory Board of Service Link and the NH Mental Health Commission. He received the Joseph D. Vaughn award in 2000 from the NH State Committee on Aging. He was a voice for senior citizens, especially in his newspaper column, “Under The Bridge” in the Foster’s Sunday Citizen and the Nashua Telegraph and previously in the Concord Monitor and Clairmont Eagle Times.
Richard is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Janet (Jones) Learned, of Meredith; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas N. & Katrina E. Learned, of Meredith; four grandchildren, Dustin Gilpatric, Devon Gilpatric, Austin Learned and Marissa Learned, and several nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces.
Memorial calling hours will be Saturday, August 28, 2010 from 6:00-8:00PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, N. H. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at 2:30 PM at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2238 Parade
Road, Laconia, N.H. Rev. David Dalzell, Pastor of the Church, will officiate.
