Doherty, Helen M. (Goodwin) 98, of Marshfield died Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at the Queen Anne Nursing Home in Hingham after a brief period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Francis P. Doherty who died in 1972. Born in Nova Scotia, November 5, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Everett and Hilda (Larkin) Goodwin.
Along with her family she arrived in Boston in 1923, becoming a U.S. Naturalized Citizen in 1940. Mrs. Doherty enjoyed many activities with her friends, including frequent games of Bingo at the Marshfield Senior Center. She loved her family and grandchildren and will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
Mrs. Doherty is survived by her daughter, Patricia Goodwin and son-in-law William Goodwin of Hopedale; her son, Jeffrey Doherty and his fiancée Jodi Sullivan of Ayer; her granddaughters Christine Thompson of Los Angeles and Jennifer Thompson of Franklin; her grandson Joshua Doherty of Woburn, and several nieces and nephews. Step mother of the late Francis R. Doherty. Mrs. Doherty is the sister of Ralph Goodwin of Nashua, NH, the late Wilson Goodwin of Quincy and the late Ronald Goodwin of Derry, NH.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, August 26, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street, rte 139, Marshfield.
Helen’s funeral service to celebrate her life and honor her memory will be held on Friday, August 27, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, 1918 Ocean Street, Marshfield. Relative and friends are kindly invited to attend.
