Arnie Washington Chilton, Jr., 77, of 919 Newnam Road, Pelham, died Friday, August 20, 2010 at his residence after
A two year decline in healthy. Born in Schoolfield on October 20, 1932, he was the son of the late Arnie Washington Chilton, Sr.
And Ludie Stephens Chilton. He was married to Hazel Paschall Chilton who predeceased him in October, 1998. He retired from
The US Army where he served during the Korean and Viet Nam wars. While serving his country, he was the recipient of four
Bronze Stars and the Viet Cross for Gallantry. He served two tours in Viet Nam. After retirement from service, he worked as
A rural carrier for the US Postal Service. He was Post Commander of the American Legion Dan River Post 1097 where he
Served as Honor Guard. Mr. Chilton was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Chilton is survived by three sons, Arnie W. Chilton, III and his wife, Debbie, Brian Keith Chilton and his wife Kathy, and
Bobby Allen Chilton and his wife, Dawn, all of Pelham; two daughters, Loretta Ann Moon and husband, Bill, of Pelham, and
Pamela Jean Gibson and husband, David, of Bachelors Hall. Also surviving is twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by one son, Rickie Lee Chilton.
Funeral services for Mr. Chilton will be held Monday, August 23, 2010 at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Mark Gaffney officiating. Interment will follow in Schoolfield Cemetery with military honors given by the American Legion Dan River Post 1097.
The family will receive friends at Swicegood Funeral Home on Sunday, August 22, 2010 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. . At other times
