Mildred Earles Brown, 84, of 26 Brown Lane, died Saturday, August 21, 2010 at her residence.
Born May 5, 1926 in Axton, VA, she was the daughter of the late Wiley J. Earles and Lillie Hundley Earles.
She was married to Averett Henry Brown who predeceased her in 2008.
Mrs. Brown was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church where she tended the baby nursery for a number of years. She was a 1944 graduate of Schoolfield High School and she had worked as a bookkeeper for Dan River, Inc. for 25 years. She had lived on Brown Lane for 48 years. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother. Mrs. Brown was the last surviving member of her generation.
Survivors of Mrs. Brown include one daughter, Laura Barbour of Westover Hills; three sons, Averett H. "Buddy" Brown, Jr. and his wife, Zoila,of Westover Hills, Barry J. Brown and his wife, Pat, of Danville, and Tim Brown of Brosville. Other survivors include five grandchildren, Kristi Cloninger, Lindsay James, Jessica Prussin, Clay Brown and Emily Brown; one Great-granddaughter, Katlyne James.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by three sisters, Laura M. Earles, Katherine E. Woodle, and Josephine E. Kendrick, and two brothers, James E. Earles and Warren K. Earles.
Funeral services for Mrs. Brown will be held Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. William C. Blalock and the Rev. Curtis Faison officiating. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday, August 23, 2010 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Swicegood Funeral Home and at other times will be at the residence, 26 Brown Lane.
