Edward J. Powers, Sr., 70

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

Edward J. Powers, Sr., 70, of Mansfield passed away surrounded by his loving family on Sunday August 22, 2010 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy M. (Unsworth) Powers to whom he was wed for over 50 years.
Born in Boston, MA on April 10, 1940 he was a son of the late Warren E. Powers and the late George and Eleanor (Camillo) Powers-Deshler.
Ed grew up in the Roxbury section of Boston and was educated in Boston public schools. A resident of Mansfield for the past 40 years, Mr. Powers was the owner of Industrial Precision Coatings Inc in Randolph, a company he founded in 1980 and which is still operated by his family.
Being semi-retired, Ed enjoyed winters spent with his wife and friends at the Breckenridge Community in Estero, Florida and summers with his family in East Falmouth.
Mr. Powers was a member of the B.P.O.E. order of Elks #1011 in North Attleboro and the Sons of Italy in Braintree. His hobbies included playing golf and boating, but his favorite times spent were those in the presence of his loving family, especially with his adoring grandchildren.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his devoted children Donna M. Batta and her husband Jeffrey of Mansfield and Edward J. Powers, Jr. and his wife Kerri of Norton. He was the cherished grandfather of Janelle Batta of New York, NY, Kyle Batta and Craig Batta both of Mansfield and Colby Powers and Devin Powers both of Norton. He was the brother of Robert Powers of New Hampshire and is also survived by his niece Nichole of New Hampshire.
Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Wednesday August 25th from 5-8 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday evening at 8:00 P.M. at the conclusion of visiting hours in the funeral home. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, Ed’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute 44 Binney St. Boston, MA 02115.
