Obituary

Mildred (Dawson) Buckley, 97, of Methuen, passed away on Thursday August 19th surrounded by her loving family at Wingate at Andover. She was born in Lawrence and was the daughter of the late James and Emily Dawson. Mildred was educated in Lawrence and worked for many years at the Pacific Mills and retired from I.T.T. After her retirement she volunteered and worked for Kindercare of Methuen. Mildred was a life-long member of New Hope Methodist Church, formerly St. Georges Primitive Methodist Church.

Mildred was predeceased by her loving husband Thomas “Bucky” Buckley who passed away on June 28, 1997. At the time of his death they had celebrated 60 years of marriage. She is also predeceased by her son, Thomas Patrick, brothers, Arthur, Ernie, John, Fred and Kenneth Dawson, sisters, Florence Wright and Elsie Green. She leaves her four daughters, Janet, wife of Donald Christenson of Duxbury, MA, Joan Griffin and her significant other Allan Legro of Peabody, MA, Nancy, wife of Daniel McKallagat of Salisbury, MA and Susan, wife of Michael Campisi of Methuen, seven grandchildren, Scott, Daniel, Amy and Brian McKallagat, Donald Christenson, Jennifer Yucius and Susan LaCroix, eighteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She also leaves her loving sister, Evelyn and her brother-in-law, John Anton of Atkinson, NH, and sister-in-law Margaret Dawson of Lawrence and many, many nieces and nephews.

Mildred’s family would like to thank Lori Scarelli for her loving and compassionate care and the entire staff of Wingate at Andover for the very special care, quality, understanding and attention that was given. A special thank you to Beacon Hospice as well for their help and kindness during this time.

Friends are invited to call on Tuesday August 24th, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen. A funeral service in her honor will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at New Hope Methodist Church in Methuen. Burial will follow at Bellevue Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718 or to a charity of one’s choice.
