Obituary

Virginia F. Crawford, 72, passed away at home in Medford on August 21st, 2010. She was born in Boston on March 4th, 1938 to her parents Francis and Mary (Ward) Harkins. Virginia was raised in Charlestown and is a graduate of Charlestown High School. She has been a resident of Medford since 1968. For many years she worked as a Switchboard Operator at the New England Memorial Hospital in Stoneham. She is a proud member of the Red Hat Society; an avid bowler; and a long time parishioner at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Medford. She is survived by her husband, George W. Crawford Jr.; by her children; Cheryl Crawford of Huntington Beach, California, George W. Crawford III and his wife Kristine of Wilmington, Charlene Hopkins and her husband Paul of Malden and Carrie Van Den Berghe and her husband Lawrence of Tewksbury; and by her grandchildren Chris, Connor, Maddie and Ashley. Along with her parents, Virginia was predeceased by her sisters Rosemarie Hoff and Cheryl Quinn. Relatives & friends are invited to attend her funeral from the Breslin Funeral Home, 610 Pleasant St., Malden on Tuesday August 24th at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Medford at 10 AM. Services will conclude with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Monday August 23rd from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
