Bernard W. Lyons, 90, of St. Elizabeth Way, East Greenwich, died Friday, August 20, 2010 at St. Elizabeth Home. He was the husband of the late Frances L. (Shafer) Lyons. They had been married for 64 years before her death in April.
Born in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late James and Emma (Loefler) Lyons. He had been a resident of Vienna, VA before moving to Rhode Island.
He was a WWII Army Veteran and had served as a First Lieutenant in the European Theatre and had been a prisoner of war for five months.
He was a graduate of Georgetown University and Georgetown Law. He had worked for the Department of the Treasury, US Customs Service as a Customs Attorney and after retiring he was a consultant for Private customs Attorneys.
He is survived by a daughter Susan T. Kaemmerlan of North Kingstown, a son Gerald P. Lyons of Milton, DE, many beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a sister Jean Donnelly of Annapolis, MD
A Memorial Mass for Mr. & Mrs. Lyons will be held MONDAY, September 27 at 10 a.m. in St. Aloysis Gonzaga Church, 19 Eye Street, N.W., Washington, DC 20001. Burial will follow with Military Honors in Arlington National Cemetery.
