Fall River – Charles W. “Bill” Furze, 79, of Westport, formerly of Fall River, died at Charlton Memorial Hospital on November 21, 2003. He was husband of Lorraine A. (Dupont) Furze.
He was born in Fall River son of the late Alfred J. and Margaret G. (Leary) Furze. He was raised in the Corky Row section of Fall River and resided in Fall River prior to moving to Westport 26 years ago. He was a graduate of BMC Durfee High School, Fall River, class of 1942. He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, Westport. He was a Massachusetts State Police Officer from 1948 to 1950 and Fall River Police Officer from 1950 until his retirement in 1976.
Mr. Furze was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II and a member of the Board of Directors of the Fall River Municipal Credit Union for more than 35 years. He was a member of the Fall River Police Relief Association; the Massachusetts Police Association; Retired State, County and Municipal Employees Association; the Fall River Clover Club; the A.A.R.P.; and “The Over the Hill Gang”. He was a former member of the Fall River Elks B.P.O.E. # 118 and the former Massachusetts State Troopers, Inc.
In addition to his wife he is survived by 2 sons: Charles W. Furze, Jr. and his wife Deborah of S. Dartmouth and Brian F. Furze and his wife Robin of Tiverton, RI; a grandson: Jason Furze and his wife Marlys of Maynard, MA; and several nieces & nephews.
He was brother of the late John J. Furze.Relatives and friends are invited to attend:
A Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, November 28, 2003 at 9:00 A.M. at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport.
