PEABODY - Cassie (Czarnecki) Solodiuk, age 90, of Peabody. formerly of Salem, wife of the late Konstanty “Kay” Solodiuk, died Wednesday morning, August 18, 2010 at her home.
Born and raised in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Jozef and Zofia (Grabowska) Czarnecki. She has been a resident of Peabody for over 50 years.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by GTE Sylvania at the Sylvan Street plant in Danvers for over 40 years until her retirement in the mid 1980's.
Cassie was an avid gardener and enjoyed quilting and needle point. Proud of her Polish heritage, she was a lifelong communicant of the St. John The Baptist Church, Salem and enjoyed attending Polish dances. Cassie shared a very close relationship with her late sister Justine who passed away in 2009 and was looked upon as a second mother and grandmother by the Urbanowicz children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by three generations of nieces and nephews, especially her beloved niece, Tina Vassy and nephew Richard Urbanowicz, both of Salem and both of whom were her longtime care givers. She also leaves a very dear and long time friend, Helen Sarowsky of Peabody, who visited with her regularly. She was the sister of the late Justine Urbanowicz, Fred J. Czarnecki and Stephen J. Czarnecki, Sr.
Her funeral service will be held Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 9 am from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 am at the St. John The Baptist Church, Salem. Visiting hours are Friday, 4 to 8 pm. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Burial is in St. Mary Cemetery, Salem.
