McDonough, Bertha Gladys (Fischermann), 93, died peacefully Tuesday night August 17, surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in her Rockland home. Bertha is the beloved wife of the late Donald McDonough, Sr. (Ed) and is lovingly survived by her seven children, 24 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and much-loved nieces and nephews.
She was a loving mother to Patricia Darcy and husband Gerald of Whitman, Donald McDonough, Jr. and wife Rita of Middleboro, Robert McDonough and wife Kathy of Abington, Michael McDonough and wife Terri, of Lakeland, Fl, Maureen Whitehouse and her husband Robert of Lakeland, Fl, James McDonough and his wife Lynne of Hanover, David McDonough and his wife Tracy of Abington.
Bertha was born in New York City where she married Ed McDonough on September 4, 1937. She lived in New York for 28 years before moving to Boston in 1945, and then to Abington, where she lived for 52 years. She moved to Leisurewoods in Rockland in 2005.
Bertha devoted herself to her large family, friends, and church. She was an avid bingo player with her many friends in Rockland and Abington and enjoyed participating in trips and events with her neighbors at Leisurewoods. Bertha’s best moments were spent with her children and their families at weekend cookouts, special events, and birthday parties.
Family and friends are invited to attend her funeral services Saturday August 21 at 10:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, followed by a mass at 11 AM in St. Bridget Church, Abington. Burial will follow in the St. Patrick Cemetery, Rockland. Visiting hours will be held Friday August 20 from 4-8 PM.
