Obituary

Alfred W. Sullivan, 79, of Milford, died Monday, August 16, 2010 at Milford Regional Medical Center.

Born in Brooklyn, New York on April 14, 1931, he was a son of the late William J. and Rose (Garrison) Sullivan. Mr. Sullivan grew up in Brooklyn and at the age of 12 moved to Milford where he resided until leaving for military service.

He attended St. Augustine’s Elementary School in Brooklyn and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Milford.

Mr. Sullivan was an Army combat veteran of the Korean War serving in the 24th Infantry Division and attained the rank of Corporal. He received the Combat Infantry Badge, the Diet Unit Citation and the Korean Service Medal with 5 Bronze Service Stars.

Retiring in 1992, Mr. Sullivan worked at Benjamin Moore Paint Co. for several years and had formerly worked as a ceramic tile setter at Stylon Ceramic Tile Co.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Ruth Thomas of Mansfield, his brother, William Sullivan of New York, his sister-in-law, Eileen Powers, formerly of Medway and his cousin, Mary Zocchi of Milford. He is also survived by many other cousins in Canada and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Friday, August 20 from the Ginley-Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at St. Joseph’s Church, 151 Village St. in Medway at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Medway.

Calling hours will be held on Friday morning from 9 – 9:45 a.m.
