James Samuel Brown, Sr., age 89, of Danville died Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at Danville Regional Medical Center. He was born on April 7, 1921 in Mount Airy, Virginia to Sam Brown and Irene Dyer Brown both deceased.
Mr. Brown was a member of Ferry Road Friends Church. He was retired from Dan River Mills. Mr. Brown served in the US Army during World War II in the 8th Division Third Army. He received a purple heart and infantry medal.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, James S. Brown, Jr.
Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Juanita Brown of the home; his daughter, Irene Gay Brown of Danville; five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11 A.M. on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Danville Memorial Gardens with Reverend Arnold Fall officiating.
