Obituary

David R. Snow of Falmouth, ME, formerly of Winchester, passed away on Monday after a long struggle with Alzheimer's. He was born on April 4, 1933 in Winchester, MA and graduated from high school there in 1951. He received his B.S. from Boston University in 1957 and his M.Ed. in 1959. David served four years in the Air Force. While serving in the Philippines, his kind nature led him to organize his fellow airmen to help build a church in a small village near the base. In 1958 he married his wife Virginia (England) Snow, also of Winchester. He worked for the American Red Cross for 37 years, a job which took him overseas both to Korea and Japan and to many locations across the United States. In his youth, David was always thinking of humorous pranks. One such prank occurred when he was stationed in Albuquerque, NM. when he and his friends set fire to tires in an extinct volcano. The townspeople became "quite excited" when thick black smoke and towering flames started belching from the cone of a supposedly extinct volcano. The news covered the incident for 3 days until someone was brave enough to climb the volcano and discovered the prank.

David spent his summers on the ocean in Ipswich, MA, where his family had a cottage and where he developed a life-long love for boating. He was an avid coin collector, often giving coin proofs to family and friends as gifts. David also loved driving and has driven through almost every state. He was a member of the American Legion where he spent many happy hours.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia, two daughters, Elizabeth Snow of Cambridge, MA, and Carolyn (Lyndy) Moore and husband Robert of Falmouth. He was know as "Poppy" by his 2 grandchildren, Andrew and William Pochepan, of Falmouth, whom he loved very much.
David will be remembered by many for his incredible generosity. He loved helping people.

A Funeral Service will be held in the First Congregational Church, 21 Church St. (on the Common), Winchester, on Thurs., Aug. 19th at 11AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held in the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Wed. from 5-8PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to The American Legion Post #164, 65 Depot Road, Falmouth, ME 04105.
