Obituary

Mary F. Baker, born May 5, 1919 in Boston, Massachusetts and wife of former Methuen Fire Chief, Otis Baker died on Saturday July 31, 2010 at The Nevins Centre, Methuen. She was educated in The Lawrence School System . Mary was a buyer for McQuades Essex Street store in Lawrence and A.G. Pollard's in Lowell before coming to The Taylor Shop in Lawrence. She was well known for the many fashion shows she coordinated for St Anthony Church in Lawrence and Forest St. Church, Methuen, The Lady Elks and The Senior Citizens building fund. She also did a show for Methuen High School to help pay for uniforms for the football team. She worked for many years with The Methuen Jaycees helping them get contestants for the pageants and putting on the shows thereafter. Mary was very active in state and Methuen politics and worked on many charity drives including The heart fund drive and The United Fund.
Her family members include several nieces and nephews from this area and from Reno, Nevada.
There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday August 18, 2010 at 10:00 am at The Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen. Memorial contribution may be made to The Forest Street Union Church, Forest St., Methuen, Ma. 01844.
