SANBORNVILLE, NH: Doris E. (Kain) Roberts, 87, formerly of Enon Village, Wenham, died Saturday, August 14, 2010 in the Goodall Hospital, Sanford, Maine following an extended illness. She was the wife of the late Homer E. Roberts, who died in May of 1984.
Born in Gloucester on March 17, 1923, she was the daughter of the late John R. and Myrtle E. (Roberts) Kain.
Mrs. Roberts was employed at the Addison Gilbert Hospital, having worked in the laundry and kitchen for several years. One of the better known clam shuckers, she worked at various locations in Gloucester and Essex.
Her daughters felt blessed to have her as their mother. She was known for her loving, kind and gentle soul and never had a harsh word for anyone. For years she was an avid bowler and was known for her knitting and crocheting. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by four daughters, Patricia, wife of Eugene Conrad, with whom she resided, Donna, wife of James Thibodeau, Carol, wife of Charles Roberts, Norma, wife of Fred Currier, nine grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by a granddaughter, Debbie Crockett, a grandson, Norman “Hippy” Roberts, Jr., her former spouse, Robert Ferguson, brothers, Robert, Richard, David and Wilber Kain and half-brothers, Charles, Roy and Lester Kain.
Her funeral service will be held on Saturday afternoon in the Cape Ann Bible Church at 12:30 p.m. Visiting hours will be held on Saturday morning in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 9 – 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in the Beechbrook Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St., Framingham, MA 02472.
