Helen L. (Knowles) Pierce, 80, of Mansfield passed away in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday August 10, 2010. She was the beloved wife of Edward H. Pierce. Mr. and Mrs. Pierce were wed on May 21, 1955.
Born in the Attleboro Falls section of North Attleboro on September 24, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Beryl B. and Ada B. (Denzer) Knowles. She grew up in North Attleboro and was a 1947 graduate of North Attleboro High School.
Mrs. Pierce had worked in the Quality Control Department at the V.H. Blackinton Co. in North Attleboro for 37 years, before retiring in 2009. She was previously been employed at the former Fairfield Optical Co. in Mansfield, where she had worked for 25 years.
A 55 year resident of Mansfield, Helen was a member of the Mansfield United Methodist Church. She was a life member of both the Mansfield Historical Society and the Harlow Family Association of Plymouth. Helen was also a member of the Girl Scouts of America.
Her hobbies included oil painting, crocheting, gardening and fishing. Helen’s favorite times where those spent in the presence of her loving family and she also enjoyed doing family genealogy.
In addition to her beloved husband of 55 years, she is survived by her devoted children Deborah A. Gray and her husband Lester of Attleboro, David A. Pierce and his wife Dee of Attleboro, Steven E. Pierce of Mansfield and Phillip A. Pierce and his wife Minelva of Glen Cove, New York. She was the dear sister of Beryl B. Knowles of Mansfield, Robert E. Knowles of Stoneham, Dennis A. Knowles of Mansfield, Donna L. Polubinski of Plainville, and is also survived by her cherished 12 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Saturday August 14th at 10:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield. Burial will follow in the Spring Brook Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday August 13th from 5-8 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
