LAWRENCE - James R. “Fluffy” Burton 73 of Lawrence died suddenly on Sunday August 8, 2010 at the Northeast Rehabilitation Center in Salem, NH.
Born in Lawrence, MA on June 4, 1937, he was the son of the late John and Marguerite (Fountain) Burton. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Patrick’ Church in Lawrence where he was an usher at the 4:00PM Mass. He attended St. Patrick’s Grammar School and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School with the Class of 1955. He also attended St. John’s Seminary, Merrimack College and Salem State College. For 36 years he was an educator and counselor in Lawrence where he worked at the Lawrence Training School, Central Catholic High School and the Lawrence Public Schools.
Jim was a free spirit who loved the beach, parties and traveling, especially to Aruba. He was also dedicated to exercise and loved his many 5:00AM friends at Cederdale Athletic Club. Jim was also a very spiritual man with a gift of healing which he shared with both friends and strangers alike. Most of all he loved spending time with his many friends and family and his 2 dogs Snickers and Milky Way.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 27 years Margaret T. “Peg” (Trainor) Burton of Lawrence, MA. His twin brother John J. “Jack” Burton and his wife Jeanne also of Lawrence, MA. Also many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jim was pre-deceased by his sister Elizabeth Beauregard.
ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends may call on Thursday from 4:00p.m. – 8:00p.m. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, Inc., 233 Lawrence Street Methuen, MA 01844. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 9:00a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Lawrence with burial to follow in St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Cemetery also in Lawrence, MA.
