Robert G. Campbell Jr. a 56 year resident of Stoughton and a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict passed away after a brief illness on Sunday August 8, 2010 at the Massachusetts Veterans Hospital in Brockton,MA. He was 80 years old and the beloved husband of over 57 years to Edith ( Neumann ) Campbell. He is also survived by his children Linda ( Campbell ) Cassia and her husband Joseph of Malden and Eric Campbell. Other survivors include his two grand – children, Olivia Cassia of Malden and Julie Campbell. He was also a brother to the late Douglas Campbell.
Born March 19, 1930 in Milton, Massachusetts he was a son to the late Robert G. Campbell Sr. and Ruth ( Dexter ) Campbell. He attended Milton Public Schools.
PFC Campbell proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army and was on active duty over in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was the proud recipient of both the Army Occupational Medal and the National Defense Services Medal.
Mr. Campbell was employed as a Supervisor by the Mason - Neilan Dresser International Co. in Norwood, Massachusetts for 40 years. In his retirement years he worked part – time as a security officer
He was dedicated and faithful servant of the First Congregational Church of Stoughton, United Church of Christ. While at the church he had the distinct honor to serve as the Committee Chairman of Boy Scout Troop # 57 for most of the 1970’s. Bob was also a committed volunteer the Friday of each week for over fifty years for the Allepo Temple, Shriners in Burlington, Massachusetts and also at the Shriners Burns Hospital in Boston.
Bob was a member of the Stoughton Art Association, Stoughton Historical Society, Stoughton Little League volunteer and was an official member of both the Rising Star Masonic Lodge Lodge AF & AM in Stoughton, MA and the Scottish Rite Valley of Masons in Boston,MA. Bro. Campbell was honored and awarded his 25 year pin in 1987 and was a Master Mason for over 48 years. Other hobbies included, travelling to Scotland and his love of boats. Mr. Campbell was also an accomplished water color artist and was known to narrate local bus tours in the area.
Visiting hours to which friends and relatives are invited to attend will be held on Thursday August 12, 2010 from 4 – 8 P.M. in the Sheehan, Lowe & Powers Funeral Home, 115 Monk Street, Stoughton. NOTE: A Masonic funeral service will take place at 7:30 P.M.
His funeral service with military honors will be held on Friday August 13, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. from the Sheehan, Lowe & Powers Funeral Home, 115 Monk Street, Stoughton. The Rev. Jean Niven - Lenk, officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Shriners Hospital for Children - Boston, 51 Blossom Street, Boston, MA 02114 in Bob’s memory, would be appreciated.
