Gladys E. (Edwards) Murphy, 81, a long time resident of Methuen, died at the Academy Manor Nursing Home in Andover on Sunday, August 8, 2010.
She was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts on January 9, 1929 to Irvin and Evelyn (Bennet) Murphy. She was eduacted in Lawrence local schools and a graduate of Lawrence High School. She was also a graduate of Academy Moderne Modeling School in Boston. She was an attendant of St, Georges Church in Methuen, MA. During the flood of 1936 she worked with the Civil Defence delivering food to the relief and rescue workers and worked as an Air Raid Warden during WWII. She worked for over 15 years for the Arlington Trust Company as a Bank Teller. She belonged to Slips N' Clutches Dance Club in Salem, NH and the Easter Star at the Masonic Lodge in Salem, NH. According to her family she loved animals of all kinds. She loved to oil paint, she painted various subject matter such as land scape and wild life.
She was married for 30 years to her loving husband, John C. Murphy. and she leaves her three children: John E. and his wife Arlene Murphy of NH Alan Murphy of Methuen, and Christine D. Murphy of Lowell, MA. as well as several nieces and nephews, and grand nieces and grand nephews etc.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at 10:00AM at the John Breen Funeral Home. A burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen, MA.
