Obituary

George P. Coleman, 81, of Fairhaven died August 9, 2010 at the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home after a long illness.
He was the husband of Vivian B. (Berube) Coleman.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late John Milton and Katie I. (Butts) Coleman, he lived in Florida and Fairhaven most of his life.
Mr. Coleman was formerly employed as a Service Manager at Kaplan Furniture and Tutterow Appliance until his retirement. He served as commissioner for the state Television and radio licensing board.
Mr. Coleman was a member of American Legion #166 and a former member and post governor of the Moose Lodge #914. He served in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II and enjoyed participating in Colonial and Civil War reenactments.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert Firth and his wife Anne of Marston Mills, MA; 2 daughters, Dianne Coleman-Camara of Mansfield, MA and Jeanne Maguire and her husband Michael of Dacula, GA; 3 grandchildren, Crystal Brier and her husband Chip, Dorian Firth and Jesse Firth and his wife Jessica; 4 great-grandchildren, Austin Breir, Briana Firth, Jacob Firth and Trenton Firth; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Hilda Caron, Phyllis Quinlan, Calvin Coleman, Merton Coleman and Thomas Coleman.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford Thursday, August 12th at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church in Fairhaven at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visiting hours Wednesday, August 11th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
