Mrs. Corine McLeod Powell, 85, of Fitzgerald, died Sunday, August 8, 2010 at Dorminy Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 3:30 P.M., Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at the Old Prospect Baptist Church with Rev Harris Johnson and Rev. J.W. Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until the funeral hour at the church.
Mrs. Powell was born in Telfair County, Georgia to the late John Cleveland and Lota Bell Davis McLeod. She moved to Ben Hill County in a wagon in 1931 with her family, crossing the Ocmulgee River on a ferry. She was a retired lab technician for Shaw Industries. During World War II, she worked at the Naval Ordinance Plant in Macon. She was a former lunchroom lady at Ashton School and a former employee of McLellan’s 5 & 10. Mrs. Powell was an active member of the Old Prospect Baptist Church.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law: Royce & Becky Powell of Fitzgerald; four grandchildren: Michael Powell of Jacksonville, FL, Mark & Anna Powell of Macon, Marcus Powell of Jackson & Kandace Powell of Fitzgerald; five great-grandchildren: Justin Powell, Harden Powell, Mary Joiner Powell, Edy Powell and Lance Powell; and a brother & sister-in-law: Jesse and Wilma McLeod of Louisville, KY. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: LeRoy F. Powell, four brothers and four sisters.
