GLOUCESTER: Grace (Elwell) Cote, 89, of East Main Street passed away peacefully Friday, August 6, 2010 in the Addison Gilbert Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Gloucester on February 2, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Dora (Arnold) Elwell. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and a graduate of Gloucester High School.
She had worked throughout her life at numerous fish processing companies along the Gloucester waterfront, having retired from the former O’Donnell-Usen Seafood Kitchens in 1983.
Grace was very devoted to her fifteen nieces and nephews and their families, who affectionately called her “Gaga.” She often served the role as a second mother. She was a kind, caring and loving woman, who was willing to give her heart and soul to each and every person in need.
She is survived by her sister, Agnes Mahan of Florida; her nieces and nephews, Karen Cunha, Roberta Joyce, William Jensen, Donna Unis, Scott MacFarland, Patty McCarthy, James White, Richard White, Jeannine White, Sandra Mattson, Gail Romanuk, Wayne Jensen, Carl Jensen and many great-nieces and great-nephews. She also leaves a dear friend, Bill Fontaine. “Gaga” will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her family. She was also predeceased by three sisters, Betty White, Dora Jensen and Faye MacFarland; two brothers, Albert Elwell and Warren Elwell and her nieces, Cathy Cabral and Linda Magnarelli.
Her funeral services will be held privately in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
