Jennie G. Macres, of Woburn passed away August 1st, following a lengthy illness; she was 83 years of age. Born in Woburn, Jennie was one of six children of the late Kyriakos and Arcondula (Poulakidakou) Georgoulakos.
Jennie was raised and educated in Woburn where she graduated from Woburn High School. She later continued her education at Bunker Hill Community College where she received her Associates Degree. For a short period, Jennie lived in Palo Alto, CA while her husband took a position working and teaching at Stanford University. When she moved back to Woburn in 1969, Jennie began her career as a real estate broker, owned and operated the Macres Realty Co. for over fifteen years. Upon her retirement from the realty business, Jennie continued to stay very active with her church and also worked as a home health aid for many years at the Gables of Winchester. Throughout her life, Jennie was very active with the Greek Church. She consistently reached out to the community as an advocate, a peacemaker, and always lent a hand to those in need. In her leisure time, Jennie enjoyed cooking, particularly traditional Greek foods. She also enjoyed traveling (especially to Greece) and had a passion for photography.
Jennie is survived by her children, Valerie Godsey and her husband Hank of California, Sonia Saunders and her husband Bill of Delaware, Jason Macres and his wife Marcia of Westford, Philip Macres and his wife Kristen of Northern Virginia. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Henry and Christian Godsey; Nicole, Lisa, and Jenna Saunders; and Dalton and Victoria Macres. She was the sister of Elizabeth Busa of Woburn, Charles Georgoulakos of Tyngsboro, the late Viola Lombard, Katherine Anderson, and Helen Constantino.
Visiting hours will take place at the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., Woburn, on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services for Jennie will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home Saturday, August 7th, at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral service at the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 70 Montvale Ave, Woburn, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Services will continue with burial at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn and conclude with a reception at the Church. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Jennie's memory to the Religious and Cultural Center of the Annunciation Greek Church, 70 Montvale Ave, Woburn, MA 01801.
