Jane Ellen Gourlis, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family, on Monday evening , November 17, following a lengthy illness and a valiant struggle, the wife of Charles P. Gourlis Sr., she was fifty-six years old.
Born in Malden she was thae daughter of the late Edna (Nugent) and James T. McCarthy,Jane was a 1965 graduate of Burlington High School, and a 1969 graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. She completed her Master´s of Education in 2002, An elementary school teacher in the Billerica public school system for the past thirty-four years, Jane spent her last twenty-five teaching years at the Dutile Elementary School on Treble Cove Rd. Jane also coached the girls elementary school basketball program.
In addition to shaping so many lives in the classroom, Jane created a wonderful family with her husband, raising three children in therir twenties and was a instrumental caregiver for her mother and aunt.
Jane was a devout parishioner at St. Charles Borromeo Church, she is survived by her husband Charles Sr., her two daughters Elena and Elizabeth Gourlis and her son Charles P. Jr., a sister Mary Leone and a brother Patrick McCarthy.
Her funeral will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St. Woburn, on Friday, September 21, at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Charles Borromeo Church at 10. Services will conclude with burial at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Thursday, Novemeber 20, from 5 thru 8.
