John Redmond Lucey, 73, a resident of Groveland, MA., passed away on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at the Boston Medical Center.
Born in Worcester, MA., John moved to Andover at the age of 6. He was a graduate of St. Augustine's Grammar School in Andover, and a 1955 graduate of Central Catholic High School. John went on to graduate from Merrimack College in 1960 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He had worked at Raytheon in Andover for some 34 years as a General Manager and Superintendent. Prior to that he had worked for Western Electric in North Andover. After his retirement, John had worked part time at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home as a driver and attendant. He had served in the United States Air Force during the Cuban Missile Crisis. A passionate sports fan, John loved to follow the Red Sox and the Patriots. He loved to fish, hunt, and play golf. He was an avid Model Train enthusiast, and enjoyed sitting on his porch watching the birds. John will be remembered as being a beloved husband, father, and grandfather who possessed the gift of being a good listener and having a great sense of humor. He also enjoyed the companionship of his dog "Peggy Lou".

John is also survived by 2 brothers: William F. Lucey, Jr. and his wife Anne of Andover, MA, and David T. Lucey and his wife Monica of Punta Gorda, FL. as well as 13 grandchildren: Sarah E. Breen, Ruthann M. Breen, Emily C. Breen, John F. Breen, Kori M. Piccolo, John R. Lucey, III, Brandon J. Lucey, Andrew W. Lucey, Ashley M. Lucey, Kara K. Lucey, Kevin P. Lucey, Keith A. Lucey and Megan M. Lucey. He is also survived by his very close friends and neighbors: Wayne and Lisa Dempsey of Groveland, MA.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, August 5, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. in St. Patrick's Church, 114 Center St., Groveland, MA. Burial will follow in the Spring Grove Cemetery in Andover. Family and friends may call on Wednesday, August 4, 2010 from 4 to 8 P.M. at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 122 Amesbury St., Lawrence, MA.
