DUDLEY – Robert J. “Pop” Dion, 79, of 18 Warsaw Avenue, died Monday, November 17, in Webster Manor.
He leaves his wife of 57 years, Rita T. (Desroches) Dion; 2 sons, Paul J. Dion and his wife Sonja V. Dion of Southbridge and Leo R. Dion of Dudley; 3 brothers, Edmourd Dion of Hollywood, Florida, and Raymond and Roland Dion, both of Dudley; a grandson, Eric P. Dion of Southbridge; and nephews and nieces.
He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater.
He was born in Burlington, Vermont, a son of Albert and Edwidge (Lefebvre) Dion, and movedto Webster in 1938, and then to Dudley in 1953. He completed the commercial course at St. Anne’s School and then studied accounting at Becker Junior College..
Mr. Dion was a fabrication assembler at Kaman Aerospace Company in Moosup, CT, for 30 years, retiring in 1986. He also repaired television sets for many years on a part-time basis.
He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Webster, where he was a collector. He was a life member of the League of the Sacred Heart. He bowled professionally, appearing on “Candlepins for Cash” on Channel 5. He enjoyed golfing and fresh water fishing, and was an avid sportsfan.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, November 29, in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 16 East Main St., Webster. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Calling hours are from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, November 20, at the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School St., Webster.
