Catherine A. (Lonergan) Luddy, of Whitman, died Thursday, July 29, at the age of 95, at the Norwell Knoll Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Norwell.
A daughter of the late Patrick and Delia (Cullen) Lonergan, she was born and raised in Whitman and graduated from Whitman High School in 1933. She was a former employee of New England Telephone Co. and Plymouth County National Bank. Mrs. Luddy was an active member of the Holy Ghost Church, the ladies Sodality and the MA Catholic Women’s Guild.
Wife of the late George R. Luddy, she is survived by her sister, Anastasia Huntington of Holbrook. She was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters. She is also survived by two sons, George and his wife Charlena of Holden, Robert and his companion Donna of Whitman, her two daughters Mary Ann of South Weymouth, and Patricia Newbitt and her husband David of Hanover. She is also survived by grandsons, Ryan, Sean, Michael and Matthew Luddy and granddaughters, Caitlin and Cara Newbitt. She was the great grandmother of six. She was also predeceased by her grandson Jay Luddy.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Norwell Knoll Nursing Home for their care and kindness to their mother during her stay.
Her funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 3, at 9:45 a.m. from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m., in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Interment will follow in the St. James Cemetery Whitman. Visitation will be held on Monday August 2, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to the St. Vincent de Paul Society c/o Holy Ghost Church, Washington St., Whitman or to the Hospice of the South Shore, PO Box 9060, Braintree, MA 02184.
