MAURINE WOLFE McCALL

Maurine was born July 27, 1936 to Gilbert and Lema Holyfield Wolfe of Surry County. She was the granddaughter of Jefferson Davis and Henrietta Holyfield and David Frederick and Lelia Victoria Shinualt Wolfe. She lost her courageous five year battle with cancer on July 29, 2010. She was blessed to be surrounded by many special family and church members, friends, and neighbors throughout her extended illness. Mrs. McCall was 74 years of age. She was preceded in death by her partner and soul mate, Lester Perry (Mickey) McCall. They shared a wonderful marriage for 37 years. Maurine was an active and faithful member of the Level Cross Community, as well as Level Cross United Methodist Church. She graduated from Copeland High School in 1954. The “hard work ethic” that she acquired as a child continued throughout her adult life. She had several occupations during her lifetime. Most would remember her as a Cosmetologist in the Level Cross community. She sold beauty supplies for Bowman’s Beauty Supply Co. in Winston Salem. She also did office work for Pine State Knitwear of Mt. Airy. She sold Tupperware for Opal Wilson of Mt. Airy and was named Tupperware Saleslady of the Year in 1976. In later years, she worked for Steven’s Photo in Winston Salem. She took much pride in contributing to the Family Income. She is survived by her children, one daughter, Tina Cockerham and husband, John of Mt. Airy, one son, Charles (Fred) McCall and wife, Carol of Winston Salem. She was called “Nana” by her three grandchildren, Amelia Elizabeth Cockerham of Greenville, NC; Charles Fredrick McCall II of Winston-Salem, NC; John Morgan Bert Cockerham of Chapel Hill, NC. She is blessed with two very loving and supportive sisters, Jane Wolfe Collins of Level Cross, NC, and Sue Wolfe Wall of Siloam, NC. She had special relations with her in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The funeral service will be held at Level Cross United Methodist Church on Sunday, August 1st at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Rickey Spencer and Rev. Todd Byrd officiating with interment to follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at The Cox-Needham Funeral Home in Pilot Mountain, NC from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 31st and other times at the daughter’s home on 325 Holly Hill Drive in Mount Airy. Memorials may be made to Level Cross United Methodist Church: 4080 Siloam Road, Dobson, NC 27017 or to Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
