Joseph H. "Pete" Dubois, 81, a longtime resident of Hudson, NH, died Thursday July 29, 2010, in Fairview Nursing Home in Hudson. He was born in Fort Kent, ME on October 6, 1928, a son of Alexis and Celine (Pelletier) Dubois and was raised by neighbors Gilbert and Emilia Legros, and was split from his five siblings due to the death of his mother when he was 8 months old. After completing sixth grade, he went to work in the woods logging to help his family make ends meet. After marrying his sweetheart, he moved to Lewiston, ME where he worked and raced stock cars. He joined the Navy in 1951, where he spent four years as a language translator in the Korean War supporting his Country. Upon his return, he spent many summers camping on Moosehead Lake in Maine, and in the White Mountains of NH. In 1965, he took a job in Nashua, NH at Gateway Volkswagen, and moved his wife and first son to begin his life in NH. He spent many years as an automotive mechanic, and had owned Pete's small engine repair. He moved to Florida for four years, but that was for "old" people he said, and moved back to NH to stay. He loved woodworking, sharing his wares with whomever he could find, was an avid fisherman and a race car enthusiast. Pete was very outgoing and would make conversation with anyone.
He is survived by four sons, Kirk D. Dubois of Nashua, Dale Dubois and his wife Kellie of Hudson, Scott Dubois and his wife Kelley of Merrimack, NH, and Kevin J. Dubois of Center Conway, NH; 11 grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Joan Bowie in 1988, and a grandson Andrew in 2009. Pete was a beloved husband, father and friend of many.
