Salem: Irene S. Levasseur age 98 of Salem, died at the Devereux House in Marblehead on Saturday, July 24, 2010 following a brief illness.
Born and raised in Ste. Anne, PQ, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Philippe and Corinne (Landry) Levasseur. Irene and her family moved to Salem from Canada in 1927. She retired from Sylvania in 1945 for reasons of health.
Irene lived a quiet life enjoying her home and family. She had several hobbies including sewing, bowling and gardening, and was a member of the former St. Joseph Parish of Salem.
She is survived by a brother-in-law, James McNiff of Salem, 3 sisters-in-law, Anita Levasseur and Theresa LeVasser both of Florida, Jeannette Levasseur of Beverly, also several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 3 brothers, George, John & Lucien and 6 sisters, Bertha Talbot, Lucille Pelletier, Marie Bernier, Carmella Flynn, Annette McNiff and Jeanne Bouchard.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at 9 a.m. to be followed by her funeral mass in St. James Chapel, 156 Federal St., Salem at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
