Mr. Robert Ellis Lee “Bob” Hill, age 90, of Pilot Mountain passed away on July 29, 2010 at Universal Health Care in King. Mr. Hill was born in Surry County on November 24, 1919 to the late John Martin and Ada Jessup Hill. Mr. Hill was a well known retired farmer and self employed as a contractor and painter in Pilot Mountain and surrounding areas. He was a member of Flat Rock Church of God. He loved his church and was especially loved by the youth who called him their “Candy Man”. Surviving are two loving daughters and son-in-law, Vikki and J.C. Johnson of Siloam and Phyllis Hill of Pinnacle; two granddaughters and husbands, Sonya and Terry Willard of Siloam and Lori J. and Mark Walters of Kernersville; three great granddaughters, Chloe, Victoria and Makayla Willard; three sisters, Phoebe Coone of Pilot Mountain, Geneva and John Wright of Greensboro Ethel and Elbert Smith of Siloam.
Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Mary Avis Collins Hill; infant daughter, Pattie Lee; parents, three sisters, Ruby Coe, Ida Corbell and Nonnie Joyce; four brothers, Charlie, Joel, Lester and Jay Porter Hill. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Cox- Needham Chapel at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Wayne DeHart and Dr. Otis Clough officiating with interment to follow in the Pilot Mountain City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 30, 2010 from 7-9 PM at Cox-Needham Funeral Home.
