Obituary

THOMPSON - Ann Marie (Cournoyer) Romanek, 69, of Pasay Road in the North Grosvenordale section of Thompson, died Tuesday, July 27, in the Transitional Care Unit at Hubbard Hospital in Webster after a long illness. Her husband of 42 years, John R. “Jack” Romanek, died in 2003.

She leaves 2 daughters, Brenda Romanek Dvoryaninova and her husband Sergey Dvoryaninov of Thompson and Sandra A. Romanek of Mansfield; a granddaughter, Johnna Marie Romanek, who was the light of her life; 3 brothers, David Cournoyer and his wife Cindy, and Donald Cournoyer, all of Webster, MA, and Bernard Cournoyer of Leominster, MA; a sister, Agnes “Candy” Davis of Webster, MA; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Marie Romanek in 2002, by a sister, Claire Mahan in 2008, and by a brother, Arthur Cournoyer in 2009.

She was born and raised in Webster, MA a daughter of Arthur J. and Gertrude E. (Clark) Cournoyer. She lived in Oxford, MA for 9 years before moving to Thompson in 1969. She graduated from Saint Louis High School in Webster in 1958.

Mrs. Romanek owned and operated, with her husband, the former Racicot-Romanek, Inc. Gulf Station on the corner of Lake Street and Thompson Road in Webster, more recently known as R & R Citgo.

A memorial Mass will be held Friday, August 6, at 10:30 AM in Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street,Webster. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace. There are no calling hours. Donations in her name may be made to the Donna Marie Romanek Memorial Fund, Thalia House Foundation, c/o James Pomposelli, MD, 601 School Street, Carlisle, MA 01741. (This charity provides support to both liver transplant donors and recipients.) Arrangements are under the direction of Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main St., Webster, MA.
