Obituary

Walter R. Lainey Sr., of East Taunton, formerly of Stoughton and a United States Army Veteran of WWII, passed away on Wednesday July 28, 2010 at the LifeCare Center of Raynham. He was 90 years old and the beloved husband of the late Norma M. ( Holmes ) Lainey.

Born on November 5, 1919 in South Easton, Massachusetts he was a son to the late Joseph and Madeline ( Randall ) Lainey.. He is survived by his three children, Geraldine R. Herman and Cynthia J. Berglund both of East Taunton and Norma G. Stephens and her husband Robert of Brockton. Other survivors include 12 grandchildren, 22 Great - grandchildren and 9 Great - Great grandchildren. He was also preceaded in death by his son Walter R. Lainey Jr. and his sister Gloria E. Lainey.

PFC Lainey served his country honorably as a member of Company A the 264th Engineer Battalion, United States Army. He received several awards and accommodations for his dedicated and faithful service to his country during World War II.

Prior to his retirement he was gainfully employed as a machinist for many years by the former Draper Brothers Textile Mills in Canton, Massachusetts.

Other interests and hobbies included, travelling, television, fishing, and his former CB club. His family loves him and will miss him very much.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday July 30, 2010 from 5 – 8 P.M. in the Sheehan, Lowe & Powers Funeral Home, 115 Monk Street, Stoughton. All are welcome to attend. His funeral service will be held on Saturday July 31, 2010 at 10 A.M. also in the Sheehan, Lowe & Powers Funeral Home, 115 Monk Street, Stoughton with Walter’s son – in law, Robert Stephens officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the family lot at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton.
