Margaret Spell Carmichael, 78, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Wednesday, July 28 at Tift Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, July 30, 2010 at Brushy Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Jimmy Bedingfield and Elder Maurice Riner officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Thursday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mrs. Carmichael was born October 3, 1931 in Fitzgerald to the late Samuel and Pauline Prescott Spell. She lived in Ben Hill and Irwin counties all of her life and was a 1948 graduate of Irwin County High School. Mrs. Carmichael was a former employee of the Hebrew Commercial Alliance. In her 27 year banking career, Mrs. Carmichael was a former employee of the National Bank in Fitzgerald and she retired as head teller and assistant cashier at First State Bank in Ocilla. She was a member of Brushy Creek Primitive Baptist Church, an avid checker player and gardener.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Carol & Elder Jimmy Chapman of Ocilla; grandson and his wife: Tim & Tracey Cox of Ocilla; granddaughter and her husband: Lisa & Rev. Tony Crosby of Alma; granddaughter: Sherry Chapman of Melrose, FL, great grandchildren: Nelson, Austin and Cameron Cox, all of Ocilla and Nicholas and Natalie Crosby of Alma, as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Carmichael.
